A little about me…
Hi! My name is Alex and I am one of the founders of The Compounding Interests. I am a follower of Jesus Christ, a husband, a former Student Ministry Director, and Financial Independence enthusiast.
I have always had a frugal outlook and distaste for debt, which led me to Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace course. Mr. Ramsey provides some excellent foundational pieces of advice regarding debt avoidance, emergency funds and retirement savings, but I couldn’t help but think there was more for me and for others. I discovered that missing piece in late 2017 I came across the world of Financial Independence and became enamored with the concept of linking Financial Independence with a spiritual dependence on Jesus Christ.
Laurel Land
My amazing wife Laurel is my partner on this journey to financial freedom and she is the perfect free-spirited foil to my nerdy, bottom-line tendencies. Laurel also makes my life more enjoyable and her decision to marry me has made me appear way more normal and shows that at least one person out there can stand being with me. We love to travel and Laurel’s travel hacking passion and expertise has afforded us some amazing opportunities. Check out her page if you want to read her perspective on travel hacking.
We live in Ohio and I am a die-hard Cleveland sports fan. I also root for Tottenham Hotspur and U.S. Men’s National Team fan as well, soccer is awesome. Through a chance meeting, I connected with the other The Compounding Interests co-founder, Troy on Facebook. Troy and I immediately realized that we had similar passions to record our travels to financial freedom and to hopefully assist others along the way. We also wanted to provide specific support for those serving as pastors as Troy and I have both served in full-time ministry situations and know all too well the financial, familial, and work-related stressors present in that occupation.
My interests
I currently work as a trainer at a software company which provides the opportunity to teach others which is a task I really enjoy doing. I hope that you feel like you now know a bit of my story and I would love to meet you in the comments below and help encourage you in your journey!
